S2S compressive context
Presentation
The S2S compressive sub-project was built around two axis:
- The sediment-routing-system record of the Pyrenees-Aquitaine system, from syn-to post-orogenic periods (S2S peri-Pyrenees).
- West European plate deformation and sediment routing modifications linked to orogenic wedge dynamics recorded through basin evolution and sources uplift (S2S far-field).
These two research axis aim at qualifying and quantifying the processes responsible for sediment transfers, whether their dominant forcings are of tectonic, climatic or climato-eustatic origin, in the framework of the Pyrenees-Aquitaine source to Sink system. With this approach, we bring keys to identify the causes for erosion, transport and deposition as well as elements of predictions on qualities and quantities of sediment exported from the Source to the Sink.
Deliverables
In addition to the academic publications and the PhD thesis manuscripts, we are currently building integrative documents that incorporate the results from S2S compressive team.
The S2S Atlas reflects the holistic approach we carried out during the last 5 years with the project group, with including our pluri-disciplinary approach of the Pyrenean system to build S2S maps and charts. These new ways to document a sediment routing system aim to follow in time and space the journey of a rock from its erosion to its final deposition via the transfer zone(s) to better assess to processes involved in its transformations. This integration targets a better prediction of sediment quality and a better comprehension of the signal propagations through a syn- to post-orogenic evolution of a peri-mountainous area.
The S2S VadeMecum is a new reference document to capture our knowledge on the S2S subject in 2020. It synthesizes the concepts, expectations and added values of the S2S approach and propose an overview of methodological recipes to assess sediment production, transport and deposition.
S2S Near Field – View results presented by Dr. E. Lasseur, Dr. A. Ortiz and Pr. S. Castelltort.
